The Carbrook Golf Club is at 653 Beenleigh Redland Bay Road (27.6846°S 153.2471°E) at the confluence of the Logan River and its tributary, the Albert River. More than a dozen bull sharks inhabit a lake at the edge of the golf course, and locals claim that the sharks likely arrived there following a flood in the 1990s. The club has embraced the existence of the sharks, having adopted a shark shaped logo and running a monthly Shark Lake Challenge gold competitions.

Carbrook is a suburb in the City of Logan, in the state of Queensland, Australia. In the 2016 census, Carbrook had a population of 1,216 people. The lake on the course is home to an estimated 12 bull sharks. Some of these sharks are rumored to be nearly 10 feet in length. Bull sharks are considered one of the most dangerous sharks in the world. There are over 120 confirmed attacks on humans and over 25 fatalities. Able to grow over 13 feet (3.9 mm), bull sharks can also reach 770 pounds (349 ki).

Bull sharks can live in freshwater and brackish water. While typically not strictly freshwater sharks, bull sharks are capable of surviving in freshwater. They are actually thriving and reproducing. The sharks on Carbrook Golf Course pose no serious threat to golfers. Since a shark is unlikely to directly come into contact with a golfer, the course has continued to let the sharks live there.
