Which author wrote novels that were made into the popular films: Catlow, The Quick and the Dead, Hondo, and Crossfire Trail?

In this instance the western writer aficionado who wrote novels where screenplays were made into movies is Louis L'Amour. The films based upon his works were big screen productions. They tended to be big budget pictures, scripted by some of the best writers, and supervised by well known directors.

Film stars in the westerns included some of the biggest who ever made movies. Iconic actors such as John Wayne, Sean Connery, Yul Brynner, Jeff Chandler, Alan Ladd, and Joel McCrea starred in the pictures, which included: Hondo (1953), Apache Territory (1958), Kid Rodeol ((1966), Shalako (1968), Catlow (1971), etc.

Also, in terms of television, Louis L'Amour had an extensive involvement. Records indicate that he supplied over two dozen movie TV screenplays and television story plots for the production of TV series. Some of the TV film adaptations were: The Texan (1959 original teleplays), Hondo (17 episodes, 1967), The Sacketts (1979), The Shadow Riders (1982), Down the Long Hills (1986), The Quick and the Dead (1987), and Conagher (1991).

In June 1988, L'Amour died from lung cancer at the age of 80 in his home in Los Angeles. He was buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.
