The Battle of Austerlitz was fought on the first anniversary of Napoleon's coronation as Emperor of France. Present at the battle were Napoleon, Francis II of Austria and Alexander I of Russia. Unable to invade their ally, England, due to overwhelming English naval power, Napoleon concentrated on dealing with the huge armies of Austria and Russia. Despite being deep in enemy territory and outnumbered, Napoleon conducted a brilliant campaign. He totally defeated his enemy in a battle often compared to Cannae. After the defeat Austria and Russia sued for peace. This ended The Third Coalition, leaving Napoleon master of Europe. But peace lasted only a short time as The Fourth Coalition soon rose to challenge Napoleon once again.
