John F. Kennedy's actions during WWII proved helpful in his future political career. In wartime John was a Lieutenant, junior grade and served as the commanding officer of PT-109, a Patrol Torpedo boat. The future 35th president of the US and his crew fought in the Pacific Theater of the war. Kennedy acted bravely after the sinking of the boat, thus becoming a war hero. When Kennedy became a president, the incident with the boat became a well-known object of American cultural heritage and provided a basis for many stories, tv-shows, movies, a song and even toys.
