Which British football team was the first to win a UEFA European Trophy?
The UEFA Cup Winners' Cup was a football club competition contested annually by the most recent winners of all European domestic cup competitions. The cup was one of the many inter European club competitions that have been organised by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
The 1963 European Cup Winners' Cup Final was the final football match of the 1962–63 European Cup Winners' Cup. It was the third European Cup Winners' Cup final and was contested between Tottenham Hotspur of England and the defending champions, Atlético Madrid.
Tottenham won the match 5–1 thanks to goals by Jimmy Greaves (2), John White and Terry Dyson (2). Tottenham's victory made them the first British team to win a major European trophy. The competition nowadays is called the UEFA Europa League, which is the second tier of European competition. The premier European competition being the “Champions League”.
