"Heartbeat" is a British police drama series set in 1960s North Riding of Yorkshire based on the "Constable" series of novels written by former policeman Peter N Walker, under the pseudonym Nicholas Rhea, and broadcast on ITV in 18 series between 1992 and 2010. It was made by ITV Studios (formerly Yorkshire Television at the Leeds Studios and on location. "Heartbeat" first aired on Friday 10 April 1992 (it was later moved to Sunday evenings). The 372nd and final episode aired on Sunday 12 September 2010.

"Heartbeat" was set in the fictional town of Ashfordly and the village of Aidensfield. But although both these towns might be made up, they're set in the North Riding of Yorkshire, which is where a lot of the filming took place. The majority of the scenes, particularly external scenes, were filmed in Goathland, a village in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire.

Many landmarks from the show are recognisable to this day, including the stores, the public house and the railway station. The local pub, the Goathland Hotel, doubled up as the Aidensfield Arms in the ITV programme. After filming interior shots in the hotel for some years, a replica of it was built in Yorkshire TV's Leeds studio.
