Prince Albert of Monaco was born Albert Alexandre Louis Pierre Grimaldi on March 14, 1958 in Prince's Palace, Monaco. His parents were Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly.
In 1981, he graduated from Amherst College, in western Massachusetts, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science. During his college years he went by the name Albert Grimaldi. He has been married to Princess Charlene of Monaco since July 1, 2011. They have two children. He speaks French, English, German, and Italian.
Prince Albert is an avid sportsman enjoying cross country skiing, javelin throwing, handball, swimming, tennis, rowing, judo, sailing, squash and fencing. He competed in the bobsled at five consecutive Winter Olympics for Monaco, taking part in both the two-man and four-man events.
Albert has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 1985 and as such is the only Olympic Committee member to participate as an athlete.
