The spoilt and high-maintenance millionaire's daughter Violet Elizabeth Bott appears in the "Just William" books by Richmal Crompton (1890-1969) an English author who did not, originally, intend her books to be read by children!

They tell of the adventures and misadventures of a gang of boys known as the outlaws, led by the truculent but imaginative William Brown, and his friends Ginger, Henry, and Douglas. But in many instances, and perhaps even more so in the films and adaptations, the appalling but captivating Violet Elizabeth steals the show. She is portrayed as having a lisp, and insists, plainly not meaning it as an idle threat, that if she does not get her way she will "thcream and thcream till I make myself thick!"

Readers may be interested to know that she is not the only female (leaving William's long-suffering sister out of it) to feature in the books. There is another girl called Joan Clive for whom William has a reluctant regard, and who is considered as an associate of the outlaws.

Perhaps the most famous portrayal of Violet Elizabeth was by (then) child star Bonnie Langford in the 1970s British TV series.
