In 1950 when the 2nd Emmy Awards Ceremony took place, Lucky Strike, an American brand of cigarettes that was owned by the British American Tobacco, won the Emmy in the category of Best Commercial. This was the first and only time that an Emmy Award for Best Commercial was given to a cigarette company for a public cigarette ad.

Often referred to as "Luckies", Lucky Strike was the top-selling brand of cigarettes in the United States during the 1930s. The brand was first introduced in the U.S. in Richmond, Virginia in 1871 as chewing tobacco. It later became a cigarette.

Also, it is interesting that in 1921 the American Colonial Cubist artist Stuart Davis represented the Lucky Strike brand in his famous painting, 'Lucky Strike'. Next, in the acclaimed AMC television show "Mad Men", the Lucky Strike cigarette company is a major client for the fictional advertising agency, Sterling Cooper. The main character, Don Draper, is often seen smoking Lucky Strikes in this 2007 - 2015 TV series.
