West Estonian archipelago (Estonian: Lääne-Eesti saarestik, also Moonsund archipelago) is a group of Estonian islands located in the Baltic Sea around Väinameri. The total area is about 4,000 km2 (1,500 sq mi). The archipelago is composed of the islands Saaremaa, Hiiumaa, Muhu, Vormsi and about 900 other smaller islands.

Because of the authentic setting, tranquillity and sustainable way of life the West Estonian Archipelago is part of UNESCO Man and Biosphere reserve.

Most Estonian islands are located a short ferry ride from the country’s western coast. Here one can find pine forests and juniper groves covering Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, Estonia’s largest islands.
