Which country is the largest producer of milk in the world?
India is the world's largest producer of milk, and is the leading exporter of skimmed milk powder, yet the country exports very few milk products of other types. Because of the ever increasing rise in domestic demand for dairy products and a large demand-supply India can become a net importer of dairy products very soon. New Zealand, the European Union's 28 member states, Australia, and the United States are the world's largest exporters of milk today. China and Russia were also the world's largest importers of milk and milk products.
Some other facts about milk:
- Cows produce 90 per cent of the world’s milk needs.
- Cow’s milk was first drunk by humans 10 thousand years ago in the territory of modern Afghanistan and Iran.
- Animals produce different types of milk to feed their male and female children. So do humans! Milk produced for males is usually fatter.
- Cow's milk has about double the amount of protein as soy milk.

Lorna Lake, reread the question. It says nothing about "cow's milk". There are other sources of milk consumed worldwide and the Wiki link does cite its sources and even it has a category for only cow's milk (did you read the article or just dismiss it because you got the answer wrong?)

According to the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) the USA was the largest cow's milk producer in the world in 2014, accounting for 14.2% of world production.
India is the second largest cow's milk producer, accounting for 10.1% of world production and producing over 66 million tonnes in 2014.
Do you have different information? Please can you provide references? Wikipedia is not a reliable source.

Interesting fact that cows milk in common with human milk has elevated levels of protein for boys !! One other fact is that cows milk contains an indigestible form of protein distinct from the protein in human milk. It is called casien and forms indigestible curds in the infant's stomach so has to be modified using a freeze drying process. Cows milk is best for calves and human milk is best for babies !!

james parrillo, Christine, I first thought of India because of the sacredness of cows. Then I switched to the USA primarily because I personally have always enjoyed my milk. However, in the end, I noticed the the name and location of the author and factored in the great possibility of pride in country.
