The director who played Jordan Belfort's father Max Belfort in the 2013 film "The Wolf of Wall Street" was Rob Reiner. The film was an adaptation of Jordan Belfort's memoir chronicling his rise and fall on Wall Street and his hard-partying, addiction-fueled personal life as a stockbroker. In the film, Max tries to truly understand his son's extreme lifestyle and some of the factors that are motivating Jordan to get caught up in crime.

Set in 1987, Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio) takes an entry-level job at a Wall Street brokerage firm. By the early 1990s, while still in his 20s, Belfort founds his own firm, Stratton Oakmont. Together with his trusted lieutenant (Jonah Hill) and a merry band of brokers, Belfort makes a huge fortune by defrauding wealthy investors out of millions. However, while Belfort and his cronies partake in a hedonistic brew of sex, drugs, and thrills, the SEC and the FBI close in on his empire of excess. Jordan will end up in a U.S. federal prison. Max will visit him.
