Situated in the city of Bristol in the west of England, Bristol City Football Club is nicknamed "The Robins". This derives from the emblem of a robin, that featured on their shirts between 1976 and 1994, and was reinstated in 2019.

The club was founded in 1894, making it one of the oldest clubs in England. From 1904 onwards, home games have been played at Ashton Gate. Currently (April 2022) they play in the Championship; the name given to the second tier of English football. They are not the only professional team in Bristol, as it is also home to Bristol Rovers.

The club was originally called Bristol South End, but changed its name to the present one only a few years after its inception.

The team hit an all-time low in the early 1980s, ironically at one of their most illustrious times on the field of play, when they were briefly in the top flight. They faced bankruptcy, dropped down to the lowest tier of the Football League, and nearly went out of business and the league.

Since then, their fortunes have been variable, and they are currently in the relegation zone of the Championship.
