Journalist and Channel 4 News presenter Catherine "Cathy" Newman (born 1974) released her first book, 'Bloody Brilliant Women: The Pioneers, Revolutionaries and Geniuses Your History Teacher Forgot to Mention', in 2018, which explores the lives of pioneering women in the 20th and 21st century. Two years later, Newman published her second book, 'It Takes Two: A History of the Couples Who Dared to be Different'.

Newman began her career as a newspaper journalist for national newspapers, including 'The Independent', the 'Financial Times' and 'The Washington Post'. In 2006, she joined 'Channel 4 News' as a political correspondent, eventually becoming a presenter in 2011.

In 2018, Newman made headlines after viewers noted she used the phrase "So you're saying..." 35 times during a 29-minute interview with Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson. It became Channel 4's second most-viewed video after Newman was criticised for having a "misplaced grasp of Peterson's views". It sparked misogynistic comments, which ironically reflected the attitudes of men in her debut book.

More recently, Newman's interview with Conor Burns, minister of state for Northern Ireland, in January 2022, went viral after Burns told her that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was "ambushed with a cake" and did not deliberately violate COVID-19 lockdown rules. The phrase inspired thousands of social media memes, and celebrity food writer Nigella Lawson joked it would be the title of her next book.
