Which film used the third story in a trilogy that started with "Chinatown" and "The Two Jakes?"
The trilogy was supposed to have three stories with the final film, "Cloverleaf" to show how corrupt the time before freeways in Los Angeles was. With the problems with the director of the first two movies, Roman Polanski and his conviction of statutory rape and the box office of The Two Jakes, Cloverleaf was never used. The writers of Who Framed Roger Rabbit , Jeffery Pierce and Peter S. Seaman, who loved Chinatown, found the story and re-worked it for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Aside from the cartoon characters it is virtually the same story.

Bob Rodger, Because you can change titles. The original (live action) treatment was called "Cloverleaf", but when it was reworked into an anmiated comedy it became "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

The director of "The Two Jakes" was Jack Nicholson, not Roman Polanski. I remember this from way back. And imdb.com has the proposed title of the third story as "Gittes vs. Gittes", not "Cloverleaf".
