Widely considered an archetype of the “Renaissance man”, Leonardo Da Vinci was a man whose curiosity was equaled only by his intelligence and talent. Among others, he was a scientist, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, painter, sculptor, architect, botanist, musician and writer. Many claim he was the smartest man to ever live – a true genius – while others claim he was the most talented to ever live. Either way, one thing’s for sure, he was a one of a kind.

Looking at him, experts believe that Leonardo Da Vinci contributed many things to mankind. Some of Da Vinci's inventions were impractical during his time. But, he still did invent musical instruments, mechanical knights, reversible crank mechanisms and hydraulic pumps. Even with his death, many of his inventions were subsequently built.

Regarding scissors, Leonardo Da Vinci did not invent scissors. Spring scissors are thought to have been invented around 1500 BC in ancient Egypt. Cross bladed scissors were invented by the Romans around 100 AD.

Although the invention of scissors is frequently attributed to Leonardo Da Vinci, scissors were around long before Da Vinci's time (1452-1519) and the actual person who invented scissors is not really known. However, Da Vinic may have perfected the pivot action of scissors. But, Da Vinic cannot today be credited as the person who actually invented scissors.
