"Smokey and the Bandit" is a 1977 American road action comedy film starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed, and others. Directed by Hal Needham, the film follows Bo "Bandit" Darville (Burt Reynolds) and Cledus "Snowman" Snow (Jerry Reed), two bootleggers attempting to illegally transport 400 cases of Coors beer from Texarkana to Atlanta. While the Snowman drives the truck carrying the beer, the Bandit drives a Pontiac Trans Am to distract law enforcement and keep the attention off the Snowman.

The film was a sleeper hit. With a production budget of $4.3 million, the film eventually grossed almost $127 million in North America, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of 1977 (only "Star Wars" earned more, with $775 million). Burt Reynolds rated the film as the one he most enjoyed and had the most fun making in his career.
