Which is the highest point of mainland Spain?
Mulhacén is the highest mountain in mainland Spain and the Iberian Peninsula. It is the highest peak in western Europe outside of the Alps.
It is part of the Sierra Nevada range in the Cordillera Penibética. Sierra Nevada meaning "mountain range covered in snow" is a mountain range in the region of Andalucia, in the provinces of Granada, Málaga and Almería in Spain.
It contains the highest point of mainland Spain namely Mulhacén which is 3,479 m (11,414 feet) above sea level. It is also the third most topographically prominent peak in Western Europe, after Mont Blanc and Mount Etna, and is ranked 64th in the world by prominence.
It is named after Abu l-Hasan Ali, known as Muley Hacén in Spanish who was the penultimate Muslim King of Granada in the 15th century. He was buried according to legend on the summit of the mountain.
Mount Teide is a 3,718m (12,195 feet) tall volcano located outside of Spain in the Canary Islands.
Veleta when translated means "weather vane". It is the second highest peak in the Sierra Nevada Range at an elevation of 3,398m (11,145 feet).
Aneto is the third highest mountain in Spain and the highest in both Aragon and the Pyrenees with a height of 3,404 m (11,165 feet). The mountain is located in the Spanish Province of Huesca, and it also forms part of the Maladeta Massif.
