In 1990 the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament involved 64 college teams. They played single-elimination games to determine the national champion of college basketball. The final two teams in the championship game were University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and Duke University, coached by Jerry Tarkanian and Mike Krzyzewski, respectively. The 1990 National NCAA Division I Men's Basketball title went to UNLV. It got a 103-73 victory over Duke. With over 100 points, this is the most points scored by a single team (UNLV) in a NCAA championship game.

This tournament began on March 15, 1990; it ended with the 63rd game being played on April 2 in Denver, Colorado. UNLV then set the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament record for the largest margin of victory in any championship game. Also, UNLV became the last team from any non-big six conference (ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, and SEC) to win a national NCAA championship. When Duke lost the 1990 championship game to UNLV (the #1-seed), Duke was the #3-seed and the 1990 East Regional Champions.
