Which is the smallest US state in land area?

Rhode Island is only 48 miles in length and 37 miles wide (77 x 59 kilometers). It is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States. It is the smallest in area, the eighth least populous, and the second most densely populated of the 50 U.S. states.

Its official name is also the longest of any state in the Union (the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations). Rhode Island is bordered by Connecticut to the west, Massachusetts to the north and east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the south via Rhode Island Sound and Block Island Sound. It also shares a small maritime border with New York. The state capital and most populous city in Rhode Island is Providence.

My family came to Aquidneck Island in 1640 with Ann Hutchinson after being forced out of Massachusetts for religious beliefs and founded "Rhode Island" Roger Williams founded Providence Plantations. Rhode Island is the home of the Independent Man. We were the last state to ratify the the constitution. We actually believe in freedom to choose, freedom of religion. It is where the 1st Synagogue in this country was built. Much of the American Revolution was fought at Fort Adams which is at the mouth of the Narragansett Bay and kept the British from coming up the Bay into Providence. We may be the smallest state, but we have a LOT of History

A Rhode Islander all my life. Best summers here, we are the Ocean State. RI has some of the best restaurants too!!! Newport in the summer is the best. Love it here.
