Which living organism acts as a neural network for plants in the forest floor?
According to the National Forest Foundation, the mycorrhizal symbiosis between fungus and plants is vital to the life of both species. It has only recently been discovered that fungi can determine which plants need which nutrients and can also send those nutrients to the plant through its network of hair-like mycelium that runs throughout the forest floor. Fungus is the oldest known living organism on Earth.
