Typically this mammal averages a gestation period of over 600 days. But this period might extend for as many as 760 days. The fetus is developed by the 19th month of the gestation and goes on growing in size inside the female. When the baby elephant is born, it already has tusks! It's an interesting fact, that during the delivery, other females encircle the mother in order to protect her and her newborn child from possible danger.
