Which mathematician is regarded as the first computer programmer?
Ada Lovelace (December 10, 1815–November 27, 1852), Countess of Lovelace, is regarded as the first computer programmer. She was an English mathematician and writer, chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage's early mechanical general purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. Her notes on the engine include what is recognized as the first algorithm intended to be carried out by a machine. As a result of what she did, she is in 2016 still known as the first computer programmer.
In her day, it was reported that Ada described her approach as "poetical science" and herself as an analyst or metaphysician. Her thoughts about "poetical science" led her to ask questions about the Analytical Engine (shown in her personal notes). She examined ideas on how individuals and society use technology as a helpful, friendly, and supportive tool.
