'Bingo' is a game in which players mark off numbers on cards as the numbers are drawn randomly by a caller. The winner is the first person to mark off all their numbers. In the UK, callers announcing the numbers developed nicknames to refer to particular numbers. The traditional phrase for the number 9 is 'Doctors Orders'. This is because 'Number 9' was a laxative pill given out by army doctors in WWII. An alternative call for the number 9 is 'Brighton line' because it rhymes.

The nicknames of 'Bingo' numbers are known as 'bingo lingo' and there are rhymes or phrases for each number from 1 to 90. Some phrases are announced in a call-and-response manner, in which the caller will start the rhyme and the players finish it. For example, if the caller draws the number 22, they announce 'Two little ducks', to which the players may respond, 'quack, quack, quack'.

Other popular 'Bingo' calls include 'legs eleven' (11), 'unlucky for some' (13), 'all the fives' (55), 'clickety click' (66), 'two fat ladies' (88), and 'top of the shop' (90).
