A hummingbird, like all other birds, has an endoskeleton. It is a skeleton that is on the inside of a body. The endoskeleton develops within the skin or in the deeper body tissues. It is referred to as the internal networks of skeletal systems which gives support and protection to both the inner softer and fragile organs like heart, lungs, and kidneys.

Exoskeleton is the external skeleton that supports and protects an animal's body. Some of the larger kinds of exoskeletons are known as "shells". Examples of animals with exoskeletons include insects such as grasshoppers and cockroaches, and crustaceans such as crabs and lobsters. Some animals, such as the tortoise, have both an endoskeleton and an exoskeleton.
