Besides being the second largest of the lake in eastern Africa, Lake Tanganyika is the longest freshwater lake in the world at 410 miles long (660 km). Plus, it is the second deepest lake at 4,710 feet (1,436 meter) after Lake Baikal in Russia. As to which of the following lakes (Lake Baikal, Lake Nyasa, Lake Victoria, or Lake Tanganyika) is the one with the most borders, it is Lake Tanganyika. This lake is divided among four countries.

Tanganyika is a comparatively narrow lake; it varies in width from 10 miles to 45 miles (16 to 72 km). It covers about 12,700 square miles (32,900 square km) and forms the boundary between Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). It also has part of the boundary between Burundi and the DRC as well as part of the boundary between Tanzania and Zambia. It is a lake that occupies the southern end of the Western Rift Valley, and for most of its length the land rises steeply from its shores.
