Which of the following Tchaikovsky (composer) family members did not have “Ilyich” as one of their forenames?
The most famous of the Tchaikovsky siblings was Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (7 May1840 – 6 November 1893). He was a Russian composer of the “Romantic period” (the last years of the 18th century and the first decades of the 19th) and was the first Russian composer whose music made a lasting impression internationally, bolstered by his appearances as a guest conductor in Europe and in the United States. He was honoured in 1884 by Tsar Alexander III, and awarded a lifetime pension.
His middle name “Ilyich” is a Russian patronymic (a name derived from the name of a father) meaning "son of Ilya". It is the East Slavic form of the male Hebrew name Eliyahu (Elijah). Pyotr and his two twin brothers, Anatoly and Modest, were each given their middle name “Ilyich” after their father.
Tchaikovsky’s younger sister Alexsandra (28 December 1841 - 28 March), was named Alexsandra Ilinichna Tchaikovsky. The Russian patronymic for a daughter is "Ilyinichna" or "Ilinichna".
Aleksandra's children gave Pyotr Tchaikovsky the family life he would know as an adult. One of her children, Vladimir, whom the composer would nickname 'Bob', became very close to him.
Modest Ilyich Tchaikovsky dedicated himself to literature and music. He wrote plays, translated sonnets by Shakespeare into Russian and wrote librettos for operas by his brother Pyotr. His twin brother, Anatoly Ilyich Tchaikovsky, pursued a successful legal career in Kiev, Minsk, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, and Tiflis.
