Janis Joplin is considered by most rock fans as the first lady of rock. A transplanted Texan to the San Francisco music scene, she became the lead singer with a psychedelic group, Big Brother & the Holding Company and issued 2 albums; 'Big Brother & the Holding Company', 1967 and 'Cheap Thrills',1968.

She then went solo and had her own backing groups. The first was Kozmic Blues Band with whom she recorded 'I Got Dem Ol' Blues Again Mama', in 1969.

Then, with Full Tilt Boogie Band she recorded 'Pearl' which was released posthumously in 1971.

She performed at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and Woodstock, 1969.

Her final album, 'Pearl', was released four months after her death, at age 27, in October 1970. 'Me and Bobby McGee' from this album hit number 1 in March 1971.

The Experience was Jimi Hendrix's band.
