Pope Francis worked for a few years in the foods section at Hickethier-Bachmann Laboratory where his boss was Esther Ballestrino. Before joining the Jesuits, he worked as a bar bouncer and as a janitor sweeping floors, and he also ran tests in a chemical laboratory. He was initially stated in media reports to having obtained a Masters degree in Chemistry, although this was later determined to be false. He never taught science to children.

Pope Francis (born Jorge Mario Bergoglio; 17 December 1936) is the head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State. Francis is the first Jesuit (a scholarly religious congregation of the Catholic Church for men founded by Ignatius of Loyola and approved by Pope Paul III) pope, the first from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere, the first to visit the Arabian Peninsula, and the first pope from outside Europe since the Syrian Gregory III, who reigned in the 8th century.
