The action spy film series "Mission: Impossible" is based on and a follow-on from the TV series "Mission: Impossible", created by Bruce Geller. The series is mainly produced by and stars Tom Cruise, whose character is Ethan Hunt, an agent of the Impossible Missions Force (IMF). The films have been directed, written, and scored from various filmmakers and crew, while incorporating musical themes from the original TV series by Lalo Schifrin. The first 3 films include — "Mission: Impossible" (1996), directed by Brian De Palma (b. September 1940, Newark, NJ, age 82 as of 2022); "Mission: Impossible 2" (2000), directed by John Woo (May 1946, Guangzhou, China, age 76 as of 2022); and "Mission: Impossible III" (2006), directed by J. Starting in 1996, the IMF films (take place 6 years after the events of the previous TV sequel series). The missions of the IMF's main field team, under Hunt, are to stop enemy forces and prevent any global disasters. The series focuses on Hunt and his actions, although other characters, such as Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) have recurring roles.

Chad Stahelski (b. September 1968, Palmer, MA, age 54 as of 2022) is an American stuntman and film director. He is known for directing the 2014 film "John Wick" and directing its 3 sequels. Stahelski also replaced Brandon Lee in "The Crow" after Lee was killed.
