French Guiana on the north Atlantic coast of South America is a French overseas territory. Its southern border is shared with Brazil, meaning that even though the two countries are separated by more than 5,000 miles, France shares a border with Brazil. With a land area of 32,253 square miles, French Guiana is the second-largest region of France and the only remaining territory America's mainland that is part of a European country.
