"Two Years Before the Mast" is a 1946 adventure film based on Richard Henry Dana Jr.'s travel book "Two Years Before the Mast". In the film, it stars Alan Ladd, Brian Donlevy, William Bendix, and Barry Fitzgerald. This film was Ppoduced by Seton I. Miller and directed by John Farrow from a screenplay written by Seton I. Miller and George Bruce.

Set in 1834, Charles Stewart (Ladd), a shipping magnate's spoiled and disolute son, is shanghaied aboard the Pilgrim, one of his father's ships. Stewart embarks upon a long, hellish sea voyage under the tyrannical rule of Captain Francis Thompson (Howard Da Silva), assisted by his first mate, Amazeen (Bendix). One of his crewmates is Richard Henry Dana Jr. (Donlevy), who will ultimately recount the young men's entire voyage in a book.
