John Tenniel did not do any illustrations for works by Charles Dickens.
Sir John Tenniel (28 February 1820 – 25 February 1914) was an English illustrator, graphic humorist and political cartoonist prominent in the second half of the 19th century. An alumnus of the Royal Academy of Arts in London, he was knighted for artistic achievements in 1893, the first such honour ever bestowed on an illustrator or cartoonist.
Tenniel is remembered mainly as the principal political cartoonist for "Punch" magazine for over 50 years and for his illustrations to Lewis Carroll's Alice's "Adventures in Wonderland" (1865) and "Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There" (1871).
Robert Seymour (1798 – 20 April 1836) was a British illustrator known for his illustrations for "The Pickwick Papers" by Charles Dickens and for his caricatures. He committed suicide after arguing with Dickens over the illustrations for "Pickwick".
Robert W. Buss (1804-1875) did two illustrations for the 3rd monthly part of "Pickwick" which disappointed the publishers and Buss was dismissed from the project.
Hablot Knight Browne (1815-1882) was then selected and developed an excellent working relationship with Dickens. Browne took the nickname Phiz to complement Dickens' Boz. Browne would go on to illustrate Dickens' work for 24 years, ten of Dicken's novels were illustrated by Phiz.
