Which of these is a character in the film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"?
Truly Scrumptious is a character in the phenomenally popular film "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" released in 1968, and featuring the adventures of two children, their eccentric widowed father, and the titular motor car. Although it is based on the book of the same name by Ian Fleming (1908-1964), the author of the original James Bond stories, it deviates from it in several ways - and in fact, Truly does not appear in the book, where Caractacus Pott's (in the film his surname is spelt Potts) wife is still alive.
Although Julie Andrews, famous for her starring role in "The Sound of Music", was offered the part, she turned it down, and it was ultimately played by Sally Ann Howes. Truly is a very endearing character - she is, as her name suggests, the daughter of a wealthy sweet factory owner, and is herself sweet natured. That said, she is also a modern and emancipated woman, and a very capable one, who dresses fashionably, though not always practically. Her name is, of course, a double entendre, though, as is fitting for a film aimed at a young audience, rather more innocent than those in many of the "Bond" movies!
At the end of the film, after various adventures and excursions, Truly points out to Caractacus that after all they've been through, he will have to marry her, and he accepts her proposal.
