Hicham EI Guerrouj (born September 1974) is the current world record holder of the outdoor middle-distance runner. He is a retired Moroccan. The 1500 metres is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested in the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately 15/16 miles.

The 1500 metres race is predominantly aerobic (involving or requiring free oxygen), but anaerobic condition is also required. Each lap run during the world-record ran by Hicham EI Guerrouj in 1998 in Rome, Italy averaged just under 55 seconds. The fifteen hundred (1500) metres is three and three-quarter laps around a 400-metres track.

As of October 2019, men's all-time top middle runner Hicham EI Guerrouj showed record time 3:26.00 held on 14 July 1998 at Rome.
