"The Last of the Mohicans (1826), "The Patfinder" (1840), and "The Deerslayer" (1841), are all novels by James Fenimore Cooper. Respectively, one is a narrative of 1757 and historical romance, the second a historical novel, and the third a tale of a young frontiersman in early 18th-century New York, who is seen as a hero. They all contain Natty Bumppo as the main character and true protagonist of the novels.

Before his appearance in "The Deerslayer", Bumppo went by the aliases 'Straight-Tongue', the 'Pigeon', and the 'Lap-Ear'. After obtaining his first rifle, he gained the sobriquet 'Deerslayer'. He is also known by other names such as 'Hawkeye', 'La Longue Carabine', 'Pathfinder', 'Leatherstocking', and 'the trapper' in "The Prairie" (1827).

The book "Liberty Is Sweet" (2021), a “deeply researched and bracing retelling” (by Annette Gordon-Reed, Pulitzer Prize–winning historian) of the American Revolution, shows how the Founders of the United States were influenced by overlooked Americans—women, Native Americans, African Americans, and religious dissenters.

In this book, it describes the origins and crucial battles of the Revolution from Lexington and Concord to the British surrender at Yorktown, focusing on —enslaved Africans and African Americans, Native Americans, women, and dissenters—and on overlooked factors such as weather, North America’s unique geography, chance, misperception, attempts to manipulate public opinion, and (most of all) disease.
