Reno is a city in the northwest section of the U.S. state of Nevada, along the Nevada-California border, about 22 miles (35 km) north from Lake Tahoe It is known as "The Biggest Little City in the World". The city is named after Civil War Union Major General Jesse L. Reno. It is known for its casino and tourism industry.

Reno, which is located in the northwest corner of Nevada, is further west than Los Angeles because California arcs inward to the east as it moves south. Reno is also further west than the coastal California cities of Santa Barbara and San Diego. The differences in longitude between the two cities are slight enough that they are both located in the Pacific Standard Time Zone. Los Angeles and Reno are about 389 miles apart.
