While 73 percent of American Presidents have owned a presidential pooch, William McKinley (January 29, 1843 – September 14, 1901) the 25th president of the United States from 1897 until his unfortunate assassination in 1901 during his presidency, didn't have a dog. He did, however, keep birds and cats.

Only two Presidents have had no pets at all while in office: Donald J. Trump and James K. Polk.
