Which of these US presidents did Queen Elizabeth II never meet?
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has met 12 of the 13 US presidents who have been in office during her reign, from Dwight D. Eisenhower to Donald J. Trump. She also met Harry S. Truman while he was president, although this was in 1951, a little before she became queen. In addition, she met Herbert Hoover at an event in New York during her state visit to the US in 1957; but this was more than 24 years after Hoover's presidency had ended.
There was one "missing" president: Lyndon B. Johnson.
There is no suggestion that the failure of these two heads of state to meet was due to indifference or impoliteness on either side of the Atlantic. There is evidence that the staff of both parties did extensive background preparation that would have been used during a meeting. Rather, the lack of connection can be put down to circumstances.
-- President Johnson was understandably preoccupied with the Vietnam war and, as a consequence, made few visits to Europe during his presidency.
-- The Queen's circumstances for not visiting the US at that time were personal. It is highly probable that she would have met President Johnson if she had attended President Kennedy’s funeral in 1963. However, those plans were dropped because Queen Elizabeth was then pregnant with Prince Edward.
