Which of these won the 2024 "Booker Prize for Fiction"?
The "Booker Prize for Fiction" has been awarded each year since 1969 to the best original full-length novel, written in the English language, by a citizen of the Commonwealth of Nations or the Republic of Ireland. In 2014, it was opened for the first time to any work published in the United Kingdom and written in (not translated into) the English language.
"Orbital" is a 2023 novel by English writer Samantha Harvey that incorporates elements of science fiction, literary fiction, and philosophical drama, published by Jonathan Cape in the UK and by Grove Atlantic in the US. It follows six fictional astronauts over 24 hours on an orbiting space station. In Harvey's own words, the novel is not science fiction.
It won the 2024 "Booker Prize" and the "Hawthornden Prize", and it was shortlisted for the "Orwell Prize for Political Fiction" and the "Ursula K. Le Guin Prize" for imaginative fiction.
Samantha Harvey (born 1975) is an English novelist. She studied philosophy at the University of York and the University of Sheffield. She completed the Bath Spa University Creative Writing MA course in 2005, and has also completed a PhD in creative writing.
