There is a phenomenon in the music world that things happen for unknown reasons. For example, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix each died at 27 hence the moniker "The 27 Club."

Sometimes things happen to a band and they're suddenly called "cursed". This seems to be the situation with the ground-breaking punk rock band The Ramones.

The band, known for its leathery odd looks and songs with lyrics fascinated by the human brain, seemed doomed. The original members were all dead by 2014.

Original members Joey, Johnny and Tommy each died of a form of cancer (Joey from lymphoma in 2001, Johnny from pancreatic cancer in 2004, Tommy from bile duct cancer in 2014). But Dee Dee died in 2002 from a heroin overdose, a few hours before he was to play a show in Los Angeles.

The Ramones were not relatives. They met in the Forrest Hills neighborhood in Queens in 1974. Joey (real name Jeffery Hyman) was the lead singer, Dee Dee (real name Douglas Colvin) was the bass player, Johnny (real name John Cummings) was the lead guitarist and Tommy (real name Thomas Erdelyi) was the drummer.

They performed 2,263 concerts, touring virtually nonstop for 22 years. The band broke up in 1996 after touring with the Lollapolooza Festival.

Spin Magazine named them the second greatest band of all time, behind the Beatles, in 2002. Rolling Stone ranked them the 26th greatest artists of all time.

On March 18, 2002, The Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
