'School Days', also known as 'School Day (Ring! Ring! Goes the Bell)', is a signature song written and frequently performed by Chuck Berry; it was recorded in January 1957 and released in less than a month and a half. The song peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 (his third highest-ranked hit) and hit #1 on the R&B Best Sellers chart. It was also his first appearance on the UK Singles Chart, reaching number 24. It is regarded as an anthem of rock 'n' roll and often mistitled 'Hail! Hail! Rock 'n' Roll', one of the lyrics which became the title of a 1987 concert film and documentary about Chuck Berry.

Seven years later, the basic melody of 'School Days' was reused for another hit song by Berry, 'No Particular Place to Go', which is about a driving date with a girl that comes to an abrupt end because of a malfunctioning seat belt. Besides reaching #10 in 1964 Billboard in the Hot 100 and R&B singles, it was also Top Ten in four foreign charts: Canada #6; Ireland #7; New Zealand #2; and UK #3.
