For at least 18 years, the TV show "Survivor" has taken its viewers around the world to some very remote and exotic destinations. During the first season of the series to get things started, the exotic location where the show was shot was Borneo.

"Survivor" got its start in Sabah, Malaysia on the island of Borneo. Sabah is known for its lush rain forests and beautiful beaches. It is also home to several rare and endangered species, including the orangutan. The 16 people (applicants) for the 2000 season reality TV game show were selected to spend 39 days on the uninhabited island of Borneo in the South China Sea. They had all of their actions under scrutiny and filmed by a hundred cameras.

The first season of the American show was won by Richard Hatch. He was later convicted and incarcerated for tax evasion on his $1-million grand prize. In the show, all of the survivors were forced to cooperate with each other. This caused the show to be a huge ratings triumph for CBS. It was credited with greatly helping to launch the reality-television fad of the 2000s.
