Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States of America, and to reach power he had to face many political enemies, both outside and within his party. He is known as the president who abolished slavery in the United States by repealing the 13th amendment to the US Constitution, as well as leading the rebuilding of the country after the civil war.

He was born in 1809 in Kentucky, and was a lawyer in Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois before becoming a politician. He served the Illinois House of Representatives for 8 years, and then the US House of Representatives from 1847-1849. He returned to Illinois to his legal practice, but returned to politics in 1854.

He was elected President in 1860, and the Civil War started soon thereafter (1861-1865). He signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862, and delivered the Gettysburg Address in 1863. He won re-election in 1864, but was assassinated in 1865 before he was able to serve his full 2nd term.
