Which singer had a bizarre connection to the deaths of fellow musicians Cass Elliot and Keith Moon?
Cass Elliot (born Ellen Naomi Cohen; September 19, 1941–July 29, 1974), was an American singer and actress who is best known as Mama Cass and a member of the Mamas and Papas. Keith Moon (born Keith John Moon; August 23 1946–September 7 1978) was the drummer with British rock band The Who.
In a bizarre coincidence, and over 4 years apart, both musicians died in London in the same room at the Curzon Place apartment owned by singer Harry Nilsson. Harry Nilsson (born Harry Edward Nilsson; June 15, 1941–January 15, 1994), known professionally as Nilsson, was an American singer-songwriter. He was friendly with both Mama Cass and Keith Moon and had let them use his apartment during their separate visits to London in 1974 and 1978.
Mama Cass died alone in the apartment on July 29th 1974 after a night out with friends at the end of a solo concert run in the capital. She had suffered a fatal heart attack in her sleep. On September 7th 1978 Keith Moon took a fatal overdose of alcohol withdrawal pills and was found dead by his girlfriend in the same room where Mama Cass had died over 4 years earlier. Coincidentally, both Mama Cass and Keith Moon were 32 years old when they passed away.
Following Keith Moon’s death Nilsson, perhaps unsurprisingly, sold the apartment believing it to be cursed.
