Which song does Ricky Nelson sing in the film "Rio Bravo"?
In the 1959 American Western film "Rio Bravo", Ricky Nelson as Colorado Ryan sings a brief version of "Get Along Home, Cindy", accompanied by Dean Martin as Dude and Walter Brennan as Stumpy.
In the film, one realizes that Nelson is, at least, singing one version of the song where a soldier or someone is going off to war and saying goodbye to his sweetheart, then the constant musical refrain of “get along home” fits into the story. Hearing the song lyrics we may vaguely think that maybe Cindy was too young to get married and thus she needs to go back home until “someday” when she will old enough. Instead as an alternative, it also appears that Cindy may need to go home and wait for the soldier/lover to come back.
The film directed and produced by Howard Hawks and starring John Wayne, Dean Martin, Ricky Nelson, Angie Dickinson, Walter Brennan, and Ward Bond, was written by Jules Furthman and Leigh Brackett, based on the short story "Rio Bravo" by B. H. McCampbell. Wayne stars as a Texan sheriff who arrests the brother of a powerful local rancher for murder and then has to hold the man in jail until a US Marshal can arrive. With the help of a lame old man, a drunk, and a young gunfighter, they hold off the rancher's gang.
The music in this film "Rio Bravo" helps to lighten various moods as needed.
