The 1975 song "Philadelphia Freedom" is one created by English musician Elton John and songwriter Bernie Taupin. It was released as a single and credited to The Elton John Band. The song was the fourth of John's six No. 1 US "Billboard" hits produced during the early and mid-1970s when his recordings were dominating music charts. In Canada it was his eighth single to hit the top of the RPM national singles chart.

The song was expressly written by John and Taupin as a favor to John's dear friend, tennis star Billie Jean King. She was, at the time, part of the Philadelphia Freedoms professional tennis team. The song features an orchestral arrangement by Gene Page that includes flutes, horns, and strings. On “Philadelphia Freedom”, John sings directly about his love for a life of freedom, as well as of the place that gave him the strength and opportunity to become a better person, reach higher heights, and find a real genuine/authentic peace of mind.

According to public reports by news media such as CNN (Cable News Network), Elton John met Billie Jean King in 1973. Following their meeting, they built up a "powerful partnership in philanthropy, raising hundreds of millions of dollars...for equal rights and for HIV/AIDS causes". John truly admired knowing and working with King; he then asked his long-term writing partner Taupin to write the lyrics to what became "Philadelphia Freedom" and to dedicate it to his great friend, Billie Jean King.
