Bill Belichick appeared as the head coach of the New England Patriots in Super Bowls numbered XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLII, XLVI, and XLIX. Don Shula made appearances in Super Bowls III, VI, VII, VIII, XVII, and XIX. Shuka was head coach for the Baltimore Colts and Miami Dolphins when his teams played in championship games.

Bill Belichick won four Super Bowl titles; Don Shula won two titles in 1973 and 1974 only. He lost games in 1969, 1972, 1983, and 1985. Belichick's teams won titles in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2015; he lost the title game in 2008 and 2012.

So, up to this point in time, only Shula and Bellichick have had the opportunities to win the most Super Bowl championship games ever in the history of NFL.
