The U.S. TV character in the series "M*A*S*H" that was born and raised in Crabapple Cove, Maine was Captain Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce. As noted on the show, Hawkeye was the son of Dr. Daniel Pierce. He attended Androscoggin College and was known as a great player on the football team.

He completed a medical residency in Boston, MA and was then drafted into the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He was assigned and served at the 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M*A*S*H) during the Korean War. Between long, intense sessions of treating critically wounded patients, Hawkeye did the best he could to make his life good in the isolated Army camp. He became known for heavy drinking, carousing, and pulling pranks on the people around him especially the unpleasantly stiff and callous Major Frank Burns and Major Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan.

This was a series that focused originally on Hawkeye as a young guy who was drafted as a doctor who really didn't want to be in the war, but who was a skilled professional and worked very hard. Thus, when time came for play, he and others played hard to give life meaning.
