The 2003 HBO mini-series adaptation of Tony Kushner's Pulitzer Prize winning play, "Angels in America" (1991), received seven Primetime Emmy Awards. These awards were given at a ceremony in Los Angeles, CA. In additional, the series obtained four technical awards which were presented at an earlier ceremony. Thus, it got a grand total of 11 Emmys as a mini-show; this makes it the series that has more Emmys than any other mini-series.

In addition to the show's winning the award for Best Miniseries, Kushner and director Mike Nichols both took home Emmys. Four of the "Angels in America" actors also received awards. Al Pacino's riveting characterization of Roy Cohn earned him an Emmy for Best Actor; Meryl Streep received the Best Actress award for her portrayal of Hannah Pitt. Mary-Louise Parker was named Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Harper Pitt. Jeffrey Wright repeated his Broadway (Tony Award winning) stage role in the miniseries. He took the Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a category that included his fellow cast members Patrick Wilson, Justin Kirk, and Ben Shenkman among the nominees. The overall acting talent for this 2003 series therefore seemed beyond outstanding.

During the Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, it became clear why "Angels in America" as a mini-series dominated the Emmys. This series as a favorite to win the most Emmys for a mini-series turned out to be right!
